Exotics/Small Mammals
At Gladstone Veterinary Clinic, we open our doors to many different species. We are happy to see your small mammals, reptiles, amphibians, pot-bellied pigs, birds, and fish.
Comprehensive Health Evaluations
Small mammals and exotic pets also benefit from annual health evaluations to stay healthy and happy. For many of these pets, habitat, and husbandry are critical to their health and well-being, and small changes in weight can indicate health concerns. The evaluation will include a full physical exam, nutritional and weight evaluation, assessment of your pet’s habitat (including lighting, heat source, and bedding/substrate), and any behavior concerns. Please call ahead to schedule your pet’s appointment, as our veterinarians specialize in different species.
Vaccinations
Although vaccinations have not been developed to protect many species from common infectious diseases, we recommend vaccinations for the following species:
Ferrets: Rabies, Ferret Distemper
Pot-Bellied Pigs: Tetanus, Erysipelothrix (Diamond Skin Disease)
Internal and External Parasites
Depending on the species, health assessment, and health risks, we will make deworming and other parasite treatment recommendations on an individual basis.
