Preventive Health Care
We are Your Partners in Your Pet’s Health
At Gladstone Veterinary Clinic, our goal is to partner with you to help your companion live a longer, healthier, happier life. You know your pet better than anyone else, and your input is so important because our patients can’t talk to us, tell us exactly where it hurts, give us a pain score on a scale of 1 to 10, or let us know that they ate barbeque out of the trash the night before they started vomiting. This partnership is also vital in developing an individual health care plan for your pet.
Comprehensive Health Evaluations
Comprehensive annual or semi-annual health evaluations are critical to the long-term health and well-being of your pet. They can help us find small problems before they adversely affect your pets health.
Physical Exam
Our veterinarians will thoroughly examine your pet from head to tail, including mouth, teeth, eyes, ears, skin, heart, lungs, abdomen, and legs. Many times, our pets hide signs of illness that could worsen over time.
Nutritional and Weight Assessment
A healthy diet and maintaining a healthy weight can increase life expectancy, quality of life, decrease the risk of many diseases (such as arthritis, diabetes, heart disease), and help manage chronic medical conditions. We will also evaluate trends in your pet’s weight, as weight gain or weight loss can be signs of underlying disease or may indicate a need to change your feeding regimen.
Behavior
Addressing any behavior problems can lead to a better, happier relationship between you and your pet. Behavior or personality changes can also be indications of health problems in your pet.
Dental Evaluation
Dental health is an important part of your pet’s overall health. We will evaluate your pet’s teeth, looking for broken teeth, periodontal disease, and other problems that may be causing your pet pain or increasing his risk of systemic illness. We will develop a plan with you to treat dental problems before they develop into bigger health issues.
Wellness Care
We will take your pet’s lifestyle, life stage, and health into consideration when developing an individualized schedule for wellness care, such as vaccinations, deworming, fecal examinations for internal parasites, heartworm screening and prevention, and screening lab work.
